The selection of a diamond can be overwhelming, regardless of whether you are looking for couples rings, simulated diamond his and hers jewelry or your dream diamond. The 4Cs are a simple way to determine which diamond is the best for you. The 4Cs include the carat weight, cut, color and clarity of the diamond. You can select the highest quality stone within your budget by understanding how diamond grading affects its quality.

In general, the higher a stone's grade in each of these categories is, the rarer and more valuable it will be. A diamond with an internal flawlessness would be the most valuable and rare. Diamond cut is the most important factor, since it affects the diamond's ability sparkle and shine. If it's cut badly, even the best diamonds will look dull and lifeless. The next step is to look at the diamond color scale. The rarest and most flawless diamonds have no visible color. The carat size of a diamond matching necklaces is the measurement of its carat weight. Clarity is also evaluated to determine any flaws within the stone.

These four factors together influence the value and quality of a diamond, both for natural diamonds mined and for simulated lab-grown diamonds. Each factor will affect the price, but you can make trade-offs to find a diamond that fits your budget. Diamond clarity is one of four major factors that you should understand to be able to choose the perfect diamond.

 What is Diamond Clarity?

Diamond clarity grading can be defined as the evaluation of any imperfections, or inclusions that are visible on the surface or inside a diamond. Answering the question "How are diamonds created?" will help you gain a better understanding of clarity.

Some defects can develop when diamonds are created from carbon that is buried deep in the earth and subjected under intense heat and pressure. The defects can be surface irregularities, also known as blemishes, or internal flaws called diamond inclusions. Diamond clarity is not as important when buying a diamond because most stones are covered with microscopic inclusions and blemishes that cannot be seen by the naked eye. Clarity is the evaluation of the relative lack of these defects.

Blemishes are most often scratches or nicks in the diamond's surface. Inclusions are a little more complicated. Inclusions are usually found on the inside, but they can sometimes break through to the surface. Inclusions can be tiny crystals of diamond or another mineral that are trapped within a diamond during its formation. These inclusions can remain in the stone even after it is cut and polished depending on where they are located. This will affect its appearance. How many factors come together to make a diamond shine is really a matter of personal preference.

 Diamond Clarity Chart

The Gemological Institute of America developed the standard that is now widely used to determine diamond clarity grade. The scale is divided into six categories. It consists of 11 unique clarity grades. A trained gemologist must determine the size, shape, relief, type, and locati0n of any inclusions or blemishes in order to evaluate the clarity of a diamond. No diamond is perfect, but there are many small flaws that can only be detected by a diamond expert. Clarity is a very important factor to assess, as the more a diamond is able to achieve perfection, the greater its value. The GIA chart of diamond clarity is divided into six categories.

 Flawless (FL),

The Flawless (FL), clarity grade is like finding a rare diamond in the rough. A Flawless diamond is able to be graded by a professional using 10x magnification. It will not have any visible inclusions. FL diamonds are coveted for their extraordinary perfection. This level is found in less that 1% of all diamonds. They represent the pinnacle clarity of diamonds.

 Internally Flawless

While not as rare as Flawless diamonds, Internally Flawless (IF), diamonds still attract admiration because of their extraordinary clarity. Under 10x magnification there are no visible inclusions that can affect the brilliance of the diamond, but minor imperfections may be seen. IF diamonds are a testament to the quality and craftsmanship that captivates discerning eyes.

 Very, Very Slightly Included (VVS).

Under 10x magnification, the Very, Very Small Inclusions (VVS1) and VVS2 categories reveal diamonds with tiny inclusions. Even experienced diamond connoisseurs will be challenged by these diamonds. VVS diamonds are the epitome of subtlety. VVS1 displays inclusions that are almost imperceptible, while VVS2 maintains exceptional quality but with slightly greater visibility. These grades highlight the exceptional clarity that can be achieved with precision and expertise.

 Very Slightly Included (VS)

The Very Slightly Included (VS), which includes VS1 as well as VS2, is a category of diamonds that have minor inclusions. Each one can be detected under a 10x magnifier. While VS1 diamonds are generally more clear than their VS2 counterparts, both grades provide a balance of quality and affordability. VS diamonds are popular because they combine clarity with affordability for many diamond lovers.

 Slightly Included

Slightly included (SI), which includes SI1 and SI2, diamonds have more visible inclusions that are noticeable to a skilled grader at 10x magnification. SI1 diamonds can reveal their inclusions without magnification. This shows a range of this category. These diamonds are a good compromise between cost-effectiveness and visual perfection, and appeal to people who want both.

 Included (I).

The included (I) clarity grades - I1, I2, I3, represent the final tier and house diamonds that have obvious inclusions. These imperfections can be easily identified by graders without magnifying glasses. In some cases, they may affect the diamond's brilliance and transparency. Diamonds in this category are more affordable, but they may also be less perfect in appearance. This makes them an ideal choice for those who prioritize affordability.
